Mazda RX-8 13B-MSP Notes
Public reference documentation for the Series 1 Mazda RX-8 and its 13B-MSP Renesis rotary engine — torque specifications, logged engine data, and a full oil metering pump guide.
This section documents my experience working on the Series 1 Mazda RX-8 and its 13B-MSP Renesis engine. It exists to share what I’ve learned and measured, and to help anyone working on their own car or rotary project.
What sets the Renesis apart from earlier Mazda rotaries is its side exhaust ports. Moving the exhaust ports from the rotor housings to the side housings reduces intake/exhaust overlap, improving efficiency and emissions while keeping the character that rotary owners love. It also changes how the engine is lubricated — which is why the oil metering pump gets its own full guide here.
A note on accuracy: these pages are carefully researched reference notes, not a substitute for the Mazda workshop manual. Always confirm torque values, procedures and specifications against the correct service information for your exact model year before working on your car.
Reference Pages
